TITLE TO HIGH WATER MARK ON BRUNY ISLAND!

This remarkable property is over 3acres (1.23Ha) and extends to the highwater mark across the road with steps leading down to the stunning coastline. It's rare to obtain water-front reserve property but rarer still to own your own water frontage!

Two nostalgic cottages are privately nestled in the landscape and enjoy wonderful water views across D'Entrecasteaux Channel with the Snug Tier Mountains in the distance.

Held tightly only having changed hands a few times, conjoined 80-year-old vertical board cottages were built by Captain William Fazackerly on his retirement as a local skipper from supplying and carrying produce for the then significant Huon River trade.

Lovingly maintained and care for, the cottages retain all the charm of their era and are a fine example of early twentieth century Tasmanian vernacular building. Wonderfully intact with historic memorabilia and some original furniture pieces they contain much of Captain Fazackerly's life, from the shipping pictures he framed himself to the cabinet wireless, even his wedding photo, all of which and more is included in this sale.

Captain Fazackerly had always thought the Killora part of Bruny Island the loveliest run of coast in the Channel and arranged to have the original woodland block carved out of Nebraska Farm, his title extending to the highwater mark. He built the first cottage and, on the death of his wife, built the second ...

... for his sister who came to live with him. The cottages are sited with a seafarer's eye for maximum protection from bad winds combined with a beautiful outlook of the Channel.

Steps from the decks lead to a garden path taking you right to the water's edge. This track crosses the road and ends at a sitting platform of impressive rock formations. From here you can literally dive into the water, fish, fetch fresh oysters, or just relish in the serenity and beauty.

Both cottages are tiered on three levels conjoined with timber decking. The north cottage currently sleeps five with two bedrooms, two living spaces including a formal lounge complete with original open fire and mantel, a bathroom and kitchenette. All rooms enjoy the channel views and windows have been designed to see the water from one end of the cottage to the other. French doors open from the formal living/dining to the expansive decking with full glass doors also from the second sunroom/living space onto another section of the deck.

The adjoining or 'Captains Cottage' also includes a formal lounge with open fire, master bedroom and storeroom on the middle level. Steps lead up to the kitchen/dining and bathroom with a second entry through French doors to the deck. The third level is a sun filled inspirational study which would also make a wonderful second bedroom, again with French doors opening also to its own deck to further admire the view.

The property has multiple outbuildings including an outside toilet, sheds, barn, wood-store and both cottages have plenty of water storage via their tanks.

The block remains original coastal woodland, rarely found in the present day, including iconic century old xanthorrhoeas (grass trees). It's dominated by statuesque viminalis eucalypts (white gums) which are the home of one of Australia's rarest birds, the forty-spotted-pardalote, which can be seen and heard from the decks daily in surrounding trees and bird baths. The woodland is full of bird and animal life, including pademelons, potaroos and the rare (in mainland Australia extinct) spotted quoll, which can be seen every night playing on the deck.

This property, tucked away in a quaint seaside community minded village promotes a feeling of total calm and peace. The minute you arrive you breathe a sigh of relaxation knowing you're somewhere special while only one hour's driving time to Hobart City.

Be quick to contact Laureen, an island resident for further details, an open home is scheduled for Sunday 27th June at 11am.
